A booster pack is a factory-sealed pack of randomized trading cards from a specific set. Card counts vary by game: 10 in Pokémon, 14 in a Magic Play Booster, 9 in Yu-Gi-Oh!, 12 in One Piece and Lorcana, and 16 in Star Wars Unlimited. An Elite Trainer Box contains 9 booster packs plus accessories (sleeves, dice, energy cards, a storage box and usually an exclusive promo), while a booster box contains 36 packs and nothing else. If your goal is opening packs, the booster box wins on price per pack almost every time. The ETB only makes sense if you genuinely value the accessories, the promo card, or the display box itself.

A pull rate is the estimated frequency of a card or rarity appearing in packs — for example, "about 1 in 100 packs." Most pull rates are observed from community openings, not published by publishers, so they are estimates with real uncertainty. Even a solid estimate never guarantees results: at 1 in 100, opening 100 packs gives you only about a 63% chance of at least one hit.
